Police made more than 50 arrests in a two-week clampdown on domestic violence.

Officers carried out dawn raids in a bid to apprehend prolific and dangerous offenders and alleviate the suffering of domestic violence victims.

A total of 56 arrests were made in Barking and Dageham between November 26 and December 9, latest Met figures show.

Barking and Dagenham had the highest incidence of domestic violence in London last year.

The crackdown, named Operation Athena, led to more than 300 arrests in the capital.
