Police commended for helping family of burns victim in Barking

Dedicated police officers were commended yesterday for assisting the family of a man who died after setting himself alight in front of his children.

Jasbir Singh Kareer was found with 90 per cent burns in his garden in Hulse Avenue, Barking, in the early hours of August 2 last year.

Three constables helped medics move the injured dad from the garden then one of the officers, Kaley Henlen, stayed with the family at Broomfield Hospital burns unit until his death later that day. He was 54.

The three police officers, Robert St. Pier, Steve Brown and Kaley received police commendations at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club in Victoria Road, Dagenham.

A Met police spokesman said: “All officers displayed immense strength of character in dealing with this incident.”
