“Suspect package” causes bomb scare evacuation at King George Hospital

Patients were evacuated from hospital after a “suspect package” created a bomb scare.

Ambulances were also diverted away from King George Hospital for half an hour while staff fled with patients through the main entrance.

The scare lasted around 30minutes before police and the fire service, who had been called to the scene following receipt of the package at around 11.30am today (December 19), declared it safe and stood down.

The “major incident” at the hospital in Ilford, which serves residents in Barking and Dagenham, also saw staff evacuate from the emergency department and outpatients’ department.

A BHR Trust spokesperson said: “We are pleased that staff acted quickly and professionally to ensure that emergency plans were put in place as appropriate.”
