An 18-year-old man has been arrested after a face-burning assault in a town centre.

Caustic liquid was thrown onto the face and neck of a 17-year-old victim in Station Parade, Barking, who remains in hospital with injuries not deemed life-threatening.

The attack occurred at around 5.20pm last Tuesday and a man was arrested on Christmas Eve on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

He has been bailed, pending further enquiries, to a date in the new year.
