A market trader who sold fake Nike trainers has been ordered to pay £1,300.

Hopeton Clarke was caught trying to sell 122 pairs of knock off Nike trainers at Dagenham Sunday Market following a sweep by trading standards.

The 49-year-old, of Caliban Towers, Arden Estate, Hoxton, was also ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service during the hearing at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on June 24.

Cllr Laila Butt, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety, said: “Counterfeit goods con consumers.”
