Mary Konye, 21, is accused of throwing acid in the face of Naomi Oni as the latter returned home from work along Lodge Avenue, Dagenham, late last December.

Konye, of Throckmorten Road, Canning Town, appeared at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court today for the first time, giving no indication of her plea, though she could face a life sentence if found guilty.

Ms Oni, who suffered extensive facial burns following the attack, worked at lingerie shop Victoria’s Secret in Westfield Stratford City.

Her alleged attacker also worked in the mall at clothes store Forever 21.

Konye, a business and finance student at the University of Hertfordshire, wore a black puffa coat in court and remained silent throughout the proceedings.

She is next due to attend a preliminary hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court on May 15.

Konye remains in custody having been refused bail.
