Soaring petrol and diesel prices have left many small businesses crippled and are taking their toll on the borough's families and workers.

The cost of filling up a medium sized family car is almost £24 more than it was five years ago and the problem is made yet more frustrating when Americans are paying less than half the price to fill up their gas-guzzling trucks.
