A delegation of Barking and Dagenham residents will join Dagenham MP, Jon Cruddas, outside Downing Street this afternoon.
The group plan to present a petition against proposals to build a prison in Dagenham outside the Prime Minister’s office at 1.45pm.
Campaigners hope to send a clear message that plans to build a 2,000 capacity facility in the borough are not welcome.
A dedicated campaign to stop a so-called “super-prison” being built at Beam Park, Dagenham, was first touted back in 2009 and seemingly quashed before being revived again in April last year.
Jon Cruddas MP and Assembly Member for city and east John Biggs led local councillors and concerned residents to London Mayor Boris Johnson’s headquarters in November 2013.
Deputy Mayor for planning Sir Edward Lister received a petition from them signed by more than 10,000 people.
