Dagenham & Redbridge coach disappointed not to get first home victory of campaign

Darren Currie was gutted Dagenham & Redbridge were unable to pick up their first home win of the season following a dull goalless draw with Newport County.

The Exiles are yet to win anywhere in the league this year, while Daggers only success came at Northampton Town earlier this month.

And in a game where chances were extremely few and far between, neither side could find the cutting edge as the hosts dropped into the relegation zone alongside the Welsh club.

Having seen his side miss the chance to take three points rather than one, Currie admits Dagenham failed to mkae the most of their opportunities.

“I don’t know about expect but we were certainly going into the game confident,” said Currie. “With the chances we created, especially in the second half, we were disappointed not to score a goal.”

Neither goalkeeper was tested in the opening half but the game somewhat sparked into life after the break, with Liam O’Brien forced into action early on.

Daggers themselves had several chances to win as the clock ticked down, with Jamie Cureton surprisingly wasting a hatful.

Currie says the management team offered some “gentle” encouragement at the break and was pleased with the change in intensity, even if it did not result in a winner.

“There were words said at half time. We were playing with no real urgency in the first half. Zavon was the only real spark for us, he went on a few little runs,” added Currie.”

“He threatened to get us going but we played at too slow a tempo and didn’t really warrant anything from the first half.

“We played with a bit more urgency after the break, one or two changes, and we created more opportunities in front of goal but unfortunately didn’t take them.”
