IT'S NOT often you can sit down to a curry and know that you are raising money for charity at the same time, writes ANNA TURVEY

But this was certainly the case for diners at the Shapla Restaurant, in Longbridge Road, Dagenham last Thursday as the restaurant held a fund-raising night in aid of the Mayor's charity, The National Holiday Fund.

With all takings from the restaurant going to the charity, owner Sirazul Haque invited Mayor Cllr Fred Barns and residents from the area to dine with them for the evening.

Cllr Barns said: "The evening gave local residents the perfect opportunity to come together to enjoy an evening's dining to raise money for a thoroughly worthy cause."

A fantastic £1,515 was raised on the night for the National Holiday Fund, which takes chronically or terminally ill children on a unique international adventure to Florida.

If you would like to know more about the charity or to make a donation visit the website at nhfcharity.co.uk.
