A 21-year-old man from Dagenham has been arrested on suspicion of carrying a firearm following a police chase in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A Ford Mondeo failed to stop for officers at about 3am but, following a short pursuit, was stopped at the junction of Ferns Road and Romford Road, in Stratford.

The three occupants of the vehicle attempted to run away, but two were detained.

Police found the man who had fled in a nearby garden and, following a search of the area, recovered a revolver.

A quantity of Class B drugs was found in the vehicle.

A pair of 25-year-old men – one from Waltham Forest, the other from Canning Town – were arrested on suspicion of possession of Class B drugs.

The trio were taken to an east London police station and later bailed to a date in mid-August and enquiries continue.

Insp Lewis Hastie said: “This was an excellent effort by officers from our response team B. “They arrested three suspects and took a dangerous firearm off the streets of Newham.”
