A supermarket has set a national trend in the fight against food waste.

Asda in Merrielands Retail Park, Dagenham, brought its “wonky veg” boxes to customers in January last year, offering a £3.50 family-sized box of misshapen greens.

After selling 12,000 boxes and saving 600 tonnes of food in the borough, the supermarket chain began to roll out the discount food boxes at 150 of its stores on Friday last week.
