A Dagenham beauty is swapping admin for the catwalk after being chosen as a finalist for Miss Universe Essex.

Francene Clarke-Walden, 21, has beaten off competition from almost 5,000 applicants to make the shortlist.

“I just wanted to set myself a goal outside of my comfort zone and to prove to myself I can do it,” she explained. “I want to become a role model to young girls.”

Francene, of Lillechurch Road, currently works as an admin assistant for Moorfields Eye Hospital, which she admits is a lot less glamorous to her turn on the catwalk.

She has planned a tandem sky dive to fulfill the charity part of her entry, which involves raising money for Strong Bones, and has recently joined a gym in order to look her best for February’s final.
