A birthday girl kicked off her 50th celebrations with a charity headshave in memory of her niece who died from cancer last year.

Kim Haynes, of Tilney Road, Dagenham, lost her long locks at May and Baker Community Club on Saturday night – raising £600 which will be split between the Little Princess Trust and Macmillan.

She admitted that it was an emotional occasion as friends and family came together to remember Georgina West.

The headshave was organised by Kim’s children – Beth, Kelsey, Stacey and Ashley Bray – and she didn’t know the venue until the night!

“They sorted it all out and did a good job – it was a great night,” she said. “My hair had got so long that it was driving me round the twist but I feel a bit cold now that it’s so short.”

Suzy Read from Envious Hair did the headshave for free and the DJs Dave Read and Luke Slater from D&L Entertainment donated half of their fee to charity.
