Organisers of the new Dagenham Community Show are hoping to make the event a worthy replacement to the Town Show.

The free event is being held on Sunday, May 19 at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club in Victoria Road from 11am to 6pm.

A range of entertainment is planned, from bouncy castles, children’s rides a five-a-side football tournament, face-painting, majorettes, singing and dancing.

A 999 emergency services stand will feature classic fire engines and police cars, demonstrations and army displays.

Local groups will be running stalls and various food vans will be supplying refreshments.

Numerous organisations are involved in running the event, including Barking and Dagenham CVS (Council for Voluntary Service), the tenants and residents’ federation, Future M.O.L.D.S, Studio 3 Arts and the football club itself.

Carl Blackburn from Barking and Dagenham CVS said: “We haven’t got the budget to match the Town Show but we need something that brings the community together.

“This is the first year so the programme is quite flexible. Hopefully we will get a good turnout.”
