A member of Dagenham dance troupe and Britain’s Got Talent winners Diversity helped open this year’s Balfour Beatty London Youth Games.

Warren Russell joined Olympic cycling gold medallist Joanna Rowsell to light the flame at Crystal Palace on Thursday.

Warren has previously competed in the games as a gymnast, representing Barking and Dagenham.

The borough pulled out of the games in an effort to save money and held its own Community Games on Friday and Saturday in Dagenham (see page 6, 7, 8 and 9).

Warren said: “I have brilliant memories of competing for Barking and Dagenham at the London Youth Games just a few years ago.

“It is such a positive environment which gives young Londoners the chance to really express themselves.”
