Twenty female students revelled in the stage prowess of their gender when they went to see an all-woman cast perform Shakespeare in the West End.

After the production of Julius Caesar, at the Donmar, Covent Garden, the Jo Richardson Community School students met businesswomen and actors to discuss important life issues such as ambition and the key to success.

The group included TV actor and writer Meera Syal; publisher and deputy chair of the Royal Shakespeare Company, Lady Susie Sainsbury; author Kathy Lette and Jane Wernik, who designed the London Eye.

Ella Perry Leigh Smith, 14, raved afterwards: “I didn’t get Shakespeare before, but having watched this amazing production I really began to understand the language.”

Kala Boller, drama teacher, said: “Meeting these inspirational women and seeing the girls relate to them was truly wonderful”.

The girls will now take part in workshops that will lead to a performance on the Donmar stage on January 30.

The group went to see the Phyllida Lloyd production on December 13.
