DAGENHAM MP Jon Cruddas has pledged to pay up after receiving a Commons letter raising concerns over a 173.83 electricity bill that he claimed for twice in error.

He also vowed to respond to technical questions posed by expenses auditor Sir Thomas Legg over "service charging" and "supporting documentation".

He became one of more than 300 MPs understood to have been quizzed by Mr Legg following their three-month Parliamentary recess.

Mr Cruddas, who in June announced plans for an independent panel to vet his expenses, said on Monday: "The panel will be set up over the next couple of weeks now that the House of Commons is back."

The electricity bill was claimed for last year.
