Laura Collins, of Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, last saw Lyra, her six-month-old white and grey bird at around 12pm yesterday.

Despite being indoors since hatching, she was let free from her cage by Laura’s one-year-old son, Bobby-Ray, before flying out of the open window and is believed to have flown off into Goodmayes Park.

“I have got another cockatiel Akio, who when I returned to the front room was flying about, but I managed to shut the window in time.

“Although, Lyra had already gone and I haven’t been able to find her anywhere,”

“She is part of the family and we really want her home.

“Akio is not eating because he’s missing his mate.” The 25-year-old explained.
