Mayor Cllr Simon Bremner joined the Royal Naval Association’s 80th birthday celebrations on Saturday.

The evening of entertainment at Dagenham and Redbridge Football Club in Victoria Road included vocalist Daryl Kane and Irish dancers from The Jordan School of Dancing.

Social secretary, Reg St Pier, 71, of Urswick Road, Dagenham, said: “The dancers were fantastic.

“They got the Chelsea Pensioners up and dancing. They thoroughly enjoyed it all.

“Our association has made so many new friends. For a lot of people it was one of their first functions.

“I’ve had several phone calls from people saying what a great time they had. It was a brilliant night, even if I say so myself!”
