THESE guardians of the law were given the gift of pedal power through generous donations from residents - and a fast food restaurant.

Goresbrook Safer Neighbourhoods Team were delighted to receive three new bikes, courtesy of Hatfield Hall Community Association, Becontree Residents' Association and the McDonald's outlet alongside Goresbrook Leisure Centre.

Police Community Support Officers Mike Hayes, Bonnie Cook and Clare Plunkett tried out the cycles with a ride around the centre's car park last week.

Sgt Tanya Wiseman, of Goresbrook SNT, said: "These bikes will make a big difference, enabling us to get around the war quicker and into parks.
