Dagenham & Redbridge assistant manager Darren Currie was delighted the squad capped a fine day for the club with a 2-1 win at home to National League promotion rivals Forest Green Rovers.

Before kick-off, it was announced that Daggers boss John Still had signed a new two-year deal.

On the pitch, Daggers controlled the first half, but took until the 52nd minute to score when Jordan Maguire-Drew turned in a Fejiri Okenabirhie cross at the far post.

Daggers, though, tired as the second half wore on and Chrisitan Doidge took advantage, heading home against his former club in the 81st minute to level the scores.

With the match heading for a draw, skipper Scott Doe nodded in the match-winner in the final minute of normal time to snatch the win for the Essex club.

And Currie was delighted the club were able to celebrate Still’s new deal with all three points.

“It was a very good day. It’s pleasing that John has committed himself for another couple of years,” he said.

“We backed it up with a performance that was a bit more Dagenham-like.

“We highlighted that we were out-of-form and maybe playing with a lack of confidence.

“There’s no excuse for not working as hard as you possibly can and luck seems to go your way more if you work hard.

“We certainly worked as hard as we could and got some rewards with one or two fall our way and our confidence grows.

“Before you know it, we’re passing the ball around with confidence again and I think it all stems from hard work and we deserve all three points.

As for Still’s new deal, the Daggers boss penned a contract that now runs until the summer of 2019.

And Currie believes that only goes to show that the Victoria Road outfit are on the way up.

“John has committed himself and we know his relationship with this club and it’s great news for everyone,” he added.

“With a few players signing new deals during the season as well, you can sense the club is going in the right direction and everyone wants to be a part of it.

“It’s pleasing he’s signed his contract and we backed it up with a good performance, so it was a very pleasing day all around.”
