Another transfer window gone and Daggers have had quite a busy one at that, with various players coming in on either loans or transfers and a few departing.

But it was the coaching staff where the first move was made with John Still officially taking charge on New Year’s Day. During his first month back at the club, Still has won one, drawn one and lost two of his first four games. Despite only gaining four points under John Still, supporters are pleased with the significantly improved effort shown by all the players since Still was appointed.

Kyle Vassell, James Dunne and Ayo Obileye all saw their loans finish after the Exeter game, but in their place on temporary deals came Joe Worrall and Oliver Muldoon. Worrall has gone on since to put in some fantastic performances and even scored his first senior goal against Newport.

Another youngster was then brought in by John Still, this time it was Harry Hickford of MK Dons before Daggers completed their first permanent signing of the window as Oliver Hawkins joined from Hemel Hempstead for an undisclosed fee. John Still revealed that he’d been scouting the player for some time, adding that it was Dagenham’s gain that he switched clubs.

John Still then went back to his former club Luton to sign experienced midfielder Luke Guttridge on a free transfer before shuffling his backroom staff with Warren Hackett, departing and Ian Culverhouse taking his place.

Rumours suggested that another non-league striker may have been about to sign for Dagenham. Freddie Ladapo of Margate has been in terrific form this season, with the National League South side reluctant to ler their prize asset leave in the January window despite being out of contract in the summer. It has since been revealed that National League side Barrow were closer to Margate’s asking price for the striker.

To round the transfer window off, Dagenham were involved in transfer deadline day as they signed Reading defender Dominic Hyam on loan. At the same time Daggers announced that they’d decided against renewing the contract of Kane Ferdinand, the only permanent departure in January.

Daggers are back in action this week against Cambridge at Abbey Stadium, a place where Dagenham have won this season in the JPT. Despite that win Daggers did lose to Cambridge 3-0 at Victoria Road on Boxing Day, so it should be a tight encounter.

Good luck Daggers!
