Sky Bet League Two: Carlisle United 2 Dagenham & Redbridge 1
Dagenham & Redbridge surrendered the lead, and their recent unbeaten, in an away defeat at Carlisle United.
Having taken the lead against the run of play, Daggers fell behind to two soft goals as the Cumbrians took all three points.
And while they had chances to draw themselves level, Daggers will travel back down the London full of disappointment.
The visitors made just one change to their starting XI from the win at Northampton Town, with captain Andre Boucaud returning from international duty to replace Matt Richards.
And the Trinidad & Tobago midfielder handed the hosts the chance to take the lead inside the first five minutes.
Boucaud gave the ball away easily inside his own half, allowing Carlisle to move forward.
After a couple of phases of play, the ball found its way to Angelo Balanta 25 yards who let fly but his shot narrowly went wide of the right post.
The Cumbrians had an even better chance to take the lead soon after when the ball broke to Jason Kennedy inside the box.
Kennedy was on his own and looked well placed to score but the ball arrived awkwardly and his half volley went over the bar.
Despite the chances and control the hosts had, it was Daggers who took the lead through Doidge.
Joe Widdowson broke past former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Alex McQueen before floating the ball into the box.
At the back post, Doidge rose highest to head home and give Daggers something of an unlikely lead.
Carlisle created chances to equalise but never took them as the half began to peter out in terms of action.
Just as it looked like Dagenham may take their lead into the break, the Cumbrians drew level with 10 minutes remaining in the half.
Balanta received a bobbling ball just inside the penalty area and with no one wanting to close him down, he fired a half volley into the back of the net.
Daggers were quick in looking for a response, with Ashley Hemmings shot forcing Mark Gillespie to tip the ball over.
A series of corners followed, including one that narrowly missed Ayo Obileye who would have score with any connection, but Carlisle survived.
Carlisle took a deserved lead eight minutes into the second half after Obileye had failed to effectively clear his lines.
His header went straight to McQueen, who whipped the ball in for Jabo Ibehre to nod in unmarked at the back post.
Again, Daggers looked for a swift resaction and nearly had one with just under 30 minutes remaining.
Ashley Chambers crossed for Doidge, but the ball went over the Welshman’s head and towards Hemmings.
In acres of space, the winger tried a first time shot on the half volley but caught more air than ball and the chance was gone.
The back post was where a lot of the action seemed to be occurring in the match andit proved the same again in the 72nd minute.
Josh Passley broke forward at speed and crossed for Doidge, who was sliding in at the back post but unable to get any real contact on the ball which went wide.
Daggers could have fallen further behind were it not for Passley with 11 minutes left on the clock, the defender clearing Tom Miller’s header off the line.
Carlisle came at them again, forcing O’Brien into action once more with the stopper pulling off a great reflex save with less than a minute remaining to keep the visitors in the game.
And with Dagenham unable to create any further chances of note, they suffered their first defeat in four matches in all competitions with a lot to think about on the long trip home.
