The Proclaimers might walk 500 miles, and 500 more, but Dagenham romantics would trek much further for love.
Love-upped residents would tread 1,219 miles – the equivalent of journeying to Berlin and back – to find the right person, according to dating site eHarmony.co.uk.
Analysing 15,000 member profiles, the online cupids found that people living in Dagenham are willing to venture the fourth furthest in the UK – more than 20 per cent further than the Scottish twins.
Those living in Thornton Heath, Croydon, would put their feet through the most pain for a shot of passion, a whopping 1,530 miles.
In contrast, people living in Bushey, Hertfordshire, are the least prepared to travel, not bothering with anyone more than 30 miles away.
Jemima Wade, spokesperson for eHarmony.co.uk, comments: “Today we’re more mobile than ever - whether its physically upping sticks and moving cities for new job opportunities, or chatting using the likes of Skype and social media. The same goes for relationships.
“Online dating means we no longer rely on who lives at the end of our street or an introduction from a friend, but as our study shows, us open minded Brits are happy to go that extra mile to find love.”
