AN INFANT school has been badly damaged by a huge fire which ripped through the building this morning (Thursday).
Smouldering timbers are all that remain of the roof at Cambell Infants, in Langley Crescent, Dagenham, after a blaze broke out at 6am.
Both it and neighbouring Cambell Juniors' School are closed while emergency services make the area safe.
The junior school was not damaged by the flames.
Fire Brigade investigators are now trying to establish the cause of the inferno.
Vergil Perrin, 35, of Arden Crescent, who has a daughter at the school, said: "I got a phone call from a mate telling me about it at about 6.45am. I watched it from my window.
"It just looked like an inferno. The flames were going higher than a house.
"You could hear the building crunching and collapsing."
