A teenage graphic design student has been nominated for a HSBC Breakthrough Award.

Laine Esperanzate, 17, from Dagenham, turned to drugs to cope with her sexuality and bullying but turned her life around thanks to a 12-week programme from The Prince’s Trust.

“I’ve developed strong relationships and found the confidence to look and be the way I want to be,” she said.

The winner will be announced at The Prince’s Trust and Samsung Celebrate Success Awards ceremony next month.
