After residents lost everything they own in the Grenfell Tower tragedy, students in Redbridge have been helping young people return to school.
After learning that donations of food and clothes were being taken care of, members of the Fairlop Leo Club wanted to arrange to help young people return to school.
After raising £1,850 to pack new rucksacks with school essentials, the teenagers filled 140 bags with essentials including pens, calculators and lunchboxes.
They packed the bags with students from Beal High School, in Woodford Bridge Road, Redbridge, last Thursday.
Leo President Maria Bicknell said the club wanted to help begin the healing process for those affected by the horrendous fire.
She said: “This has touched all our community it affected every colour, faith and culture and our love goes out to all affected by this tragedy.”
The filled rucksacks will now be delivered personally to the council’s children’s services deparmtent in Kensington and Chelsea in order to be distributed.
The second batch for the remaining children will be organized in the next few weeks.
