The new Tesco warehouse in Dagenham is now open with 350 residents already taking up jobs there.

Earlier this year there was concern there would not be many jobs left for local people after the supermarket announced that 800 workers being made redundant at a Harlow depot would be prioritised for the positions.

However the company announced this week that just 170 Harlow employees will transfer to the Dagenham site at Beam Reach when Harlow closes in August.

Of the promised 756 new jobs created, there still remains 236 jobs left to fill.

A Tesco spokesperson saidl “We are pleased to have opened our new fresh food distribution centre in Dagenham, the biggest in Tesco’s fresh network.

“We’ve already recruited more than 350 fantastic new colleagues from the local area and recruitment is still going on.”
