If you find yourself shouting Alfie in the park this weekend then don’t be surprised if a pack of hounds comes bounding towards you.

YourVets Dagenham has revealed the top 10 most popular dog names in the region, with some surprise results.

Staff trawled through their records and compiled the list after noticing certain names kept cropping up.

Kim Elcock, practice manager, said: “We’ve had a lot of fun compiling the top 10 list.

“We spotted a revival of old-fashioned names, with Charlie and Molly in second and third place respectively, whilst Bella came fourth.

“We’ve also had a few Edwards and Jacobs crop up outside the top 10, and have a feeling it’s got something to do with the Twilight saga.”

She said the name Marley had also seen a rise since the hit film about a fun-loving golden retriever.

Kim added: “We definitely noticed a pattern: most names are sing-songy and lyrical, and it’s not hard to figure out why – if you will be shouting your dog’s name in the park for years you want it to be easy on the ears.”

The top 10 names are Alfie, Charlie, Molly, Bella. Poppy, Ruby, Jack, Millie, Bailey and Marley.
