A carer accused of suffocating her ill dad to death was remanded in custody at the Old Bailey today.

Clair Darbyshire, 36, allegedly murdered her dad Brian, 67, by putting a plastic bag over his head at their home in Wykeham Green, Dagenham.

She is accused of carrying out the killing on September 2, but the body was not discovered by police until eight days later when neighbours reported their concerns.

Darbyshire appeared in custody at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court this morning and was fast-tracked to appear at the Old Bailey this afternoon.

Dressed in a prison-issue grey tracksuit and with straggly greying hair, she spoke only to confirm her identity during the brief preliminary hearing.

Prosecutor Jonathan Rees QC said Darbyshire’s father “was suffering from multiple sclerosis and she was his carer”.

Judge Rebecca Poulet QC remanded her in custody until November 30 for a plea and case management hearing.

A provisional trial date has been set for February 15, with the case not expected to last longer than two weeks.
