Sky Bet League Two: Dagenham & Redbridge 0 Yeovil Town 1

Dagenham & Redbridge fell nine points adrift of safety in League Two following a disappointing home loss against Yeovil Town.

On the occasion of their 400th regular season game in the Football League, Daggers started slowly, but by the end of the first half on top.

Sadly they were unable to continue that momentum after the break, with the Glovers scoring an early goal to take all three points back to Somerset.

There were just two changes for Daggers from their loss at Mansfield Town, with Ashley Chambers and Clevid Dikamona dropping to the bench.

In their place came Justin Hoyte and Matt Richards, with the midfielder making his first start since the victory at Northampton Town in September.

Daggers were penned in their own half for much of the opening 15 minutes, although Yeovil were unable to force Liam O’Brien into action.

Things were in fact so bad in terms of action, a ball across the box from Matt McClure which found no one in the 19th minute was greeted with a huge cheer.

It took until the 24th minute for the game’s first effort on target, with O’Brien acrobatically pushing Marc Laird’s close range effort away from danger.

Three minutes later and McClure tripped Ben Tozer on the edge of the box, but Matt Dolan’s resulting free kick went narrowly over.

Daggers came closest to scoring in the 29th minute when a corner sparked a goalmouth scramble.

Dom Hyam, McClure and Oliver Muldoon all had efforts blocked before the visitors cleared their lines.

Two minutes later and the hosts had an even better chance when Oliver Hawkins burst past Connor Roberts and into the box.

Hawkins was one-on-one with Artur Krysiak, but the tall striker’s effort rolled tamely into the Yeovil keeper’s arms.

By now, Daggers were on the up with Joss Labadie next to chance his arm in the 34th minute, with his effort from 25 yards whistling over the bar.

McClure too was also one who went close, with a snapshot from just inside the area five minutes before half time gratefully collected by Krysiak.

The striker was clearly in a confident mood, shooting from distance two minutes later, but his half volley went into the away stand behind the goal.

Daggers needed to continue that level of intensity into the second half, but within five minutes of the restart they fell behind.

Laird flicked a long ball into the path of Brandon Goodship who coolly slotted past O’Brien from just inside the box.

That sparked home boss John Still into a reaction, with Jodi Jones brought on less than two minutes later.

Daggers knew they had to chase the game, but that left the hosts open at the back to quick counter attacks.

One swift break from Yeovil saw Laird charge forward and unleash a powerful effort from 20 yards that O’Brien could only palm away before it was cleared.

That was as good as it got in the remaining minutes, with Daggers unable to find an equaliser and slipping ever closer to a return to non-league football.
