Dagenham & Redbridge boss wants to see team stand up and be counted against Yeovil

Dagenham & Redbridge assistant boss Ian Culverhouse believes success at home to Yeovil Town could be the catalyst that is needed to kick-start their bid to remain in League Two.

Having started 2016 with a victory at Exeter City, Daggers have not won in their last six matches, a run of form that has seen them become cut adrift at the foot of the table.

Even beating the Glovers on Saturday would not be enough to take the east Londoners off the bottom of the table as the season ticks into its final third.

But Culverhouse says that despite how bleak things currently look, a positive outlook is needed and a win this weekend would be the perfect way to foster one for the team and fans.

“It’s a belief we need, that we can do it and stay in this league. I’m sure that as soon as we get that magical win, things will take off and we can drive it forward to stay in this league,” he said.

“It’s a massive game for the club. We need the fans to stay with us and get behind us. We need people to die for the shirt, that’s what we need. We can’t leave anything on the pitch, and I’m sure the players are up to that.”

It may not be easy for Daggers, though, with Yeovil boasting one of the better defences among those teams fighting to avoid relegation.

After their midweek draw at home to Plymouth Argyle, the Glovers had shipped just 47 goals giving them a better record than mid-table sides such as Notts County and Morecambe.

But Culverhouse has backed the Daggers attack to break down the Yeovil rearguard and fire the Victoria Road side to a long overdue first home win of the season.

“We have to work on our gameplan and hopefully when the chances do arise, we take them,” he added.

“We need to be composed in front of goal to have something to defend and give the fans something to get behind.”
