DAGENHAM & REDBRIDGE slipped to a 1-0 defeat against Northampton Town on Saturday. Here is how we rated the players.

GK: Tony Roberts - 7 - hardly had anything to do bar a few routine saves. No chance with the goal either, but as always, kept the away fans entertained in the second half.

RB: Abu Ogogo - 7 - another solid display from Abu who is making the most of his chance in the team now. Being part of a consistent back four will only help his progression too.

LB: Damien McCrory - 7 - STAR MAN - as far as debuts go, this was very impressive from the young Irishman. Looked confident in possession, unafraid to put a tackle in and displayed a willingness to get forward and shoot too. Shades of a certain Scott Griffiths at times!

CB: Mark Arber - 7 - lost Akinfenwa once in the second half, but apart from that he produced another effective performance. One dynamic run forward out of defence showed just how high his confidence is right now.

CB: Scott Doe - 7 - continues to impress with every game as he handled the physical threat the Cobblers had fairly comfortably. Came close to his first goal too with a header that Chris Dunn saved.

RW: Jon Nurse - 5 - was preferred to Danny Green on the wing, but the move didn't really work out. Struggled to get into the game despite switching flanks, and although he almost broke the deadlock with a fine strike, was guilty of switching off for the Cobblers goal.

CM: - Peter Gain - 7 - good to see Gain back in the middle, and it by far and away his most natural position. Relishes the influence he can exert on a game, but needs to cut out his indiscipline at times.

CM: Marlon Pack - 6 - slightly better from Pack, but he still doesn't appear to have got to grips with the tenacity of League Two football. Still takes an age to get things moving and that isn't the Daggers way.

LW: Darren Currie - 6 - always looks comfortable in possession, but didn't really use it in the right areas. His set-pieces were disappointingly poor too as they were often cut out by the first defender.

CF: Wes Thomas - 6 - surprisingly restored to the starting line-up and although he has pace to burn, it remains to be seen whether he has the ability to become a Football League player.

CF: Paul Benson - 6 - wasn't at his best and missed two late chances with his head, that on another day, he might have buried.

SUBS

Josh Scott (Thomas 63) - 5 - didn't have the impact from the bench that he has had in the past as Northampton's defence coped with the increased physical threat.

Danny Green (Currie 70) - 6- got on the ball and sent his usual array of crosses in, but nothing is going right for Daggers at the moment.

Phil Walsh (Nurse 80) - 6 - thrown on late in the day to add some height to the Daggers frontline and did just that.

SUBS NOT USED: Chris Lewington, Romain Vincelot, Tommy Tejan-Sie, Billy Bingham.
