A wave of eager swimmers is set to come crashing down on the Olympic Park Aquatics Centre when it opens its doors for the first time in just over a month.

The iconic new landmark, which played host to the medal-winning exploits of diver Tom Daly and swimmer Rebecca Adlington during the London 2012 Games, will be open to the public from March 1.

Following close behind, the south side of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is also set open its newly landscaped parklands complete with art 25 installations to visitors from April 5.

Already the north of the park, which opened in July last year, has seen more than a million visitors to its concerts, events and sporting venues — including more than 100,000 to the Copper Box Arena alone.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said the park had delivered an “astonishing legacy” and that reopening the south would “give great pleasure to thousands of Londoners and visitors to our city”.

“No other Olympic city has come close to London’s success in delivering a lasting legacy of sporting venues, jobs, homes and simply wonderful park lands,” he added.

The Aquatics Centre has two 50m pools, a diving pool and a newly installed gym and will host the 2014 FINA/NVC Diving World Series in April with the European Swimming Championships to follow in 2016.

“The stunning venue hosts arguably the best swimming pools in the world,” said Peter Bundey, deputy managing director of charitable leisure operator GLL.

“We look forward to welcoming local communities into this iconic venue.”

Information will be available to customers from Monday, January 20, on how to book activities and join the centre ready for the opening.

Work is also underway to transform the Olympic Stadium into a multi-use venue set to become the permanent home of West Ham United FC and play host to England 2015 Rugby World Cup fixtures.
