Just five days remain for residents to get their garden waste collected.

3,000 gardeners have already registered for the £80 two-year collection but a further 1,000 are needed for the service to get the green light.

The introduction of a paid-for service comes after Barking and Dagenham Council axed the £220,000-a-year free collection at the end of last summer in light of budget cuts.

Cllr Lynda Rice, cabinet mmber for environment and street scene, said: “It’s fantastic around 3,000 people have signed up so far but we need more to, otherwise keen gardeners will lose out on their collections this year.

“And remember neighbours can get together and share a collection if they want.”

Go to lbbd.gov.uk/greengardenwaste to sign up by this Sunday, March 19.
