The movement of Dagenham Heathway Post Office into a nearby newsagents has been delayed by five weeks.

Setbacks in the refurbishment mean that the current branch will remain open until March 25.

The new premises, within Dagenham Enterprise Ltd in the nearby Heathway shopping centre, was supposed to open on Thursday next week, but this has now been postponed until March 26.

The move forms part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to ensure branches no longer rely on government funding.

No jobs will be lost, with the new branch set for seven serving positions made up of two screened and four-open plan counters alongside a Post Office serving point at the retail desk.

Opening hours will be extended by five hours on Saturdays, bringing business hours to 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Saturday.
