TWO paedophile brothers have been jailed for at least seven years each for what a judge described as 'sexual depravity against children on a huge scale'.

Graham Potter, 40, and half-brother Damien Barker, 22, carried out a sickening two-year orgy of abuse against a boy and girl as young as five.

Potter was jailed indefinitely after he admitted a catalogue of sex crimes including offences against another young boy and girl in the late 1990s.

He will have to serve a minimum of seven years before a parole board can consider his release.

Barker, who has a reading age of a five-year-old, was jailed for seven years.

Potter's partner Sharon Day, 40, denied joining the brothers in three gang sex attacks but admitted child cruelty charges and received a 10-month jail term suspended for two years.

Potter preyed on a seven-year-old girl between October 1998 and June 2000, forcing himself on a seven-year-old boy in 1996. He then joined Barker in the abuse of a boy and a girl between February 2005 and March 2007.

In a video interview the boy abused by Potter and Barker told how he was forced to have sex.

Describing the abuse he suffered from the age of five he said: "It happened a lot, more than 10 times and on other occasions." He revealed how Potter and Barker took turns to rape him.

A girl told the court how she was assaulted by Potter and Barker between the ages of six and eight.

The abuse came to light when the victims reported their ordeal to foster carers.

Bespectacled Barker and Day stood trial in November last year but entered guilty pleas only after their victims were forced to give evidence.

Passing sentence, Judge Inigo Bing said: "This has been a case of sexual depravity against children on a huge scale."

Judge Bing described Potter, who admitted 19 sex abuse charges relating to all four children, as a "devious, determined, persistent and predatory paedophile". The trio were banned from working with children while Potter and Barker must sign the sex offenders' register for life.

Potter, of Dagenham, admitted indecent assault on a male person, five counts of indecent assault, five counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, five counts of rape of a child under 13, two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, and assault of a child under 13 by penetration.

Barker, of Custom House, admitted three charges of sexual assault of a child under 13, rape of a child under 13 and two counts of causing or inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 and one of assault of a child under 13 by penetration will lie on the file.

Day, of Dagenham, Essex, admitted two counts of cruelty to a child under 16.

Charges of assault of a child under 13 by penetration and two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 against Day were ordered to lie on the court file.
