Community gardeners hope a rather peculiar sunflower could be a world record breaker.

Volunteers at Linkway Plantastic Prescription Gardens in Groveway, Dagenham, were surprised to find that one of their sunflowers had another growing within it.

Kathy Mason, who helps at the site, said: “We’ve never seen anything quite like it before. I googled online and couldn’t find any other examples. So we decided to enter the flower into the Guinness World Records.”

Linkway Plantastic Prescription Gardens were opened last year.
