POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked for no apparent reason.

The 36-year-old, from Tilbury, was driving toward City Limits roundabout in Marks Gate at 9pm on May 27 when a vehicle behind him flashed its lights for him to stop.

When he did so, a man pulled up behind, got out of his vehicle and tapped on his window, saying he had noticed a flat tyre on the victim's car.

The last thing the driver remembers is getting out of his car to investigate.

He later woke up lying next to his vehicle with pain in his jaw and neck. He believes he was assaulted, but was not robbed.

The victim was taken to Newham Hospital and treated for cuts and bruises.

Police are appealing for anybody who witnessed the incident to come forward.

The suspect was driving a white Citroen van with National Rental written on the side, was a 30-year-old white man, 5ft 10" tall, with brown wavy hair, and was wearing a blue t-shirt.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Det Con Tim White on (020) 8217 5535, or Crimestoppers on (0800) 555 111.
