THUGS have keyed 19 cars in a Dagenham street causing around £10,000 worth of damage.
The mindless assault on the vehicles took place overnight on Sunday, April 27, in School Road, Dagenham.
Motorists awoke to find that their cars, some expensive Mercedes and BMWs, had deep scratches across the bodywork and some had been damaged on every single panel.
The infuriated residents quickly phoned the police and say they are disgusted by the act of thuggery.
One man, who did not want to be named, said: "I got up on the Sunday and went outside because I was going to drive down to the shops. I came outside and saw deep scratches all over my car, I was fuming.
"Then I noticed that my neighbours car had been keyed and the neighbour after that."
By about midday it was obvious that someone had come down the street and keyed all these cars.
"My insurance said that it is going to cost at least £2,000 to sort this out. You don't need to be good at maths to know that this idiot has caused tens-of-thousands of pounds worth of damage."
Some vehicles will have to be completely re-sprayed with some residents expecting their bills to rise as high as £5,000.
Another victim said: "I am absolutely devastated. It's bad enough when you crash your car and damage it but there is absolutely no reason for this damage.
"It makes me afraid to park my car in the street again, how am I supposed to sleep easy if there are people who are going to destroy my property just for kicks.
"The person who did this gained absolutely nothing. It is a senseless crime and I hope they get caught and dealt with severely.
PC Richard Heapey, who is leading the investigation for Barking Police, said: "We believe that the events took place between 2.30 and 3.30am on Sunday.
"We have currently had reports of 19 cars that have been damaged, some have minor damages but some are much more seriously damaged.
"Two people have been arrested and bailed to return at a later date.
"We would like to hear from anyone who feels that they may have also been a victim of this crime."
Victims should call Barking Police on 020 8984 1212.
