A 26MILLION bus route linking Barking and Dagenham Docks every six minutes has begun and is expected to ferry six million passengers a year.
The new East London Transit (ELT) will also act as a "catalyst" to woo the first families to the 10,000-home, 1.9billion Barking Riverside development, which is getting off the ground after seven years.
The first homes are to be built by Christmas. Plans for a shopping centre, primary school, church, cafe, play areas and offices were approved last month.
The ELT 1 route, replacing the 369 bus, runs between Ilford and Thames View Estate 24 hours a day and ELT 2 continues into Dagenham Dock between 5.15am and 12.30am.
