A man charged with the murder of Dagenham teenager Joel Adesina appeared for a mention date at Central Criminal Court today.

Lincoln Olaribigbe, 23, of Stonegrove, Edgware, was arrested on May 13 and charged on May 14 with stabbing the 15-year-old in the abdomen in Bethnal Green Road on December 5.

He appeared at his first hearing after arrest at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The late-night stabbing followed a confrontation between Joel’s friends and a group sat in a car.

Joel played football for Barking and Dagenham team Bardag FC Yellows. After being stabbed he ran into Ekol corner shop screaming for help.

Police arrived at 11.05pm as he lay bleeding on the shop’s floor and an ambulance crew attended at 11.30pm.

Joel died less than three hours after the stabbing, at 2.12am, on December 6, at Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel.

A post-mortem examination identified the cause of death as a stab wound to the liver.

Det Ch Insp Chris Jones is leading the investigation by the Homicide and Major Crime Command.

Olaribigbe will appear at Central Criminal Court on July 10 for a plea case management hearing.
