Instead of enjoying their day off from school Monday, thirteen Barking and Dagenham College students helped clean up rubbish around the lakes in Mayesbrook Park.
Shopping trolleys, bottles, and old car tyres have been pulled out of the lake by park rangers recently.
Ruth Taylor, community ranger for Barking and Dagenham Council, said the students cleaned 13 bags of rubbish filled with bottles, cans and bags. She said the students’ teacher was proud of their hard work and contribution “in helping their local environment”.
“I want to say a big thank you from the Ranger Service for all the help which has made a significant difference to Mayesbrook Park in just a couple hours,” Ruth said.
Both students and residents are encouraged to help out at another clean up at Dagenham’s Padnall Lake at 12:30pm Monday, May 14.
