A group of sixth-form students met the likes of Sandi Toksvig and anti-racism campaigner Baroness Lawrence at a special lecture celebrating inspirational women.
The youngsters from Jo Richardson Community School, in Gale Street, Dagenham, were invited to the 2016 Women of the Year Lecture delivered by legendary BBC broadcaster Sue MacGregor last week.
After the event, at The Royal Institution of Great Britain, the girls spoke in length to guest speaker Dame Stephanie Shirley about her career, her escape from Nazi Germany and her IT business.
“It was an incredible experience to meet a strong businesswoman who embodies everything we, as young women, want to aspire to,” said Bethany Knight, 17.
