The achievements of the borough’s youngsters will be celebrated at Barking and Dagenham’s first ever youth parade on Sunday.
More than 1,000 youngsters from 30 groups and organisations are expected to take part in the event, which starts at Barking Park at 11am before twisting through the town centre and ending in Abbey Green.
Council leader Cllr Darren Rodwell, who dreamed up the event, said: “I think it’s really important everyone in the borough feels a valued part of the community,
“Unfortunately our young people can sometimes be forgotten, or stereotyped in a negative way, so this is an opportunity to reflect and cheer them.
“They deserve to be recognised for their contribution to the borough and inspiration to their peers.”
Sikh Sports Children, who meet weekly at Barking Gurdwara Singh Sabha LondonEast, will be among the lesser-known groups taking part.
The youngsters practise judo, karate and the South Asian wrestling-based sport of Kabbadi on Sunday afternoons.
Other organisations include Barking and Dagenham Cycling Club, baton twirlers Lilac and Whites Majorettes, stage school Born 2 Perform and mobile youth club Youth Bus.
Temporary road closures will be in place along the route.
