A former soldier explained the importance of Remembrance Sunday as he paid a visit to a Dagenham primary School.
Ken Radley, treasurer of the Becontree and Chadwell Heath branch of the Royal British Legion, was invited to Grafton Primary School, in Grafton Road, on Friday afternoon.
The 74-year-old, who served in the territorial army between 1959 and 1982, spoke about why the nation holds a Remembrance Day every year and the reason behind wearing a poppy.
Headteacher Martin Nicholson said: “We were very happy to welcome Mr Radley to our school. We have been selling poppies every year for many years during the build up to Remembrance Day.
“Mr Radley’s talk to the children was an excellent way of raising awareness and was followed up with discussions in the classroom.”
