NINE HUNDRED pupils were missing lessons today after their school boiler broke down.
Sydney Russell Secondary in Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham, said it was struggling through a “nightmare scenario” after being forced to send around half its pupils home when the broken boiler prevented all classrooms being heated on Friday.
Around 600 pupils from year 7 and 8 will attend school for one day this week to be given homework, but will otherwise miss all lessons until January.
The 300 year 9 students will be back next week for the last week of term before the holidays.
One parent criticised the closure saying: “It’s just silly. At the end of the day, the children are missing out two weeks of work.”
