A Dagenham school has scooped a “prestigious” award for bringing the world into the classroom.

All Saints Catholic School in Wood Lane won culture body the British Council’s international school award for its teaching and links to other countries.

Headteacher Clare Cantle said: “The work of our staff in enthusing our pupils and broadening their horizons happens on a daily basis.

“As a school rooted in our Catholic faith, having a universal outlook means we must have an international outlook and this award is fantastic recognition of all the work and vision our staff have.”

The school’s international work includes links to a school in India, PE trips to the Alps and geography trips to Italy.

British Council boss Sir Ciarán Devane said: “The school’s fantastic international work has rightfully earned it this prestigious award.

“An international dimension in children’s education ensures they are truly global citizens.”
