A school in Dagenham has been named School of the Year by the East London Community Organisation, TELCO.
All Saints Catholic School in Terling Road has been campaigning for a year to improve the bus services round the area.
After receiving the backing of councillors and Dagenham and Rainham MP Jon Cruddas, the school council were given an award for their campaigning efforts.
The school is looking for more traffic lights to give people time to cross, countdown timers on bus stops, bus schedules to fit with the end of the school day, and a dedicated bus for pupils, in a bid to reduce the amount of time students are waiting to get home.
Assistant headteacher Nick Pauro said: βIt was a very proud moment to see the action have an impact and show people that things can be changed with a concerted effort.β
The awards ceremony was held at the University of East London campus in Stratford.
